Forgot your lock pattern? Here’s how to bypass it

If you’re human, you’ve forgetting something before. Whether it be leaving your front door open, where you’ve left your car keys, or just simply what your pattern lock was on your Android device, it happens. Unfortunately, for the latter, it might mean that you’re locked out of your tablet or smartphone without being able to get access to anything through no fault of your own. Thankfully, there is a way that you can bypass this by providing a few more credentials. We’ve covered the method on  how to do this on Samsung devices , and thankfully, the method is relatively similar for other Android devices as well.  However, before you ever enable anything having to do with a lock pattern or PIN, make sure that you’ve got all your stuff automatically backed up. In order to do this, head to  Settings > Backup & reset  and make sure you’ve got everything checked off. This is particularly handy should you ever need to wipe your device remotely in case of theft or if you’ve got a  HT

How to use two numbers in WhatsApp at the same time

Having a dual SIM smartphone has its perks but unfortunately users of these devices have to choose just one number to register on  WhatsApp ...until now! A developer on the XDA Developers forum resolved the issue by creating an application that allows the use of two numbers simultaneously on WhatsApp. Here's how it’s done! The OGWhatsApp is a modified version of the popular messaging app for Android and it doesn’t require root access to be used. Besides the innovative function allowing you to simultaneously use two numbers, it also lets you to open images in the preview app without having to save them, watch videos (with a player like MXPlayer) without taking up any internal memory, among some other great functions. To install the application on your dual-SIM device, follow this tutorial: Make a backup of your WhatsApp messages Change the name of the folder  /sdcard/WhatsApp  on your device to  /sdcard/OGWhatsApp . Download the OGWhatsApp from the  XDA Developers websit

Low memory on Android: how to fix it

First up, there's two issues here: low system memory (RAM) and low internal memory (storage). We'll show you how to clear up both of them to keep your Android device running smoother and faster. Low system memory (RAM) Many older Android devices have 1 GB of RAM or even 512 MB. If you're running some fairly intensive apps – or even just too many – your RAM can start to struggle under the pressure. The first rule of RAM Club is you  don't use task killers . These are a lovely placebo if you're into that kind of thing, but task killers simply stop processes long enough for a cool bar graph or pie chart to show an impressive decrease in RAM usage. But those processes tend to start up again only a few moments later, putting you right back where you started.  Android already has a great built-in tool for monitoring your apps' RAM usage.  The best thing to do is keep an eye on how much RAM your apps use and get rid of the problematic ones, assuming you can liv

How to block ads on your Android (and save data!)

Ads and pop-up windows on your computer are one of the most annoying things in the world, and that's why practically everyone has a pop-up and ad blocker installed on their desktop. But for some strange reason not everyone bothers to do the same thing for their Android - and then suffers from various sites that pop up more windows and tabs than you can poke a honey-covered stick at (for catching the pop-ups with, you see). Suffer no more! We'll show you the best way to block ads, including pop-ups, on your Android and  save some of your precious data  at the same time.  You can disable ads, video ads, sound ads and pop-ups (as well as all ads!)  Did you know that all those ads (static and video) actually use up tons of your data allowance? Just think about it. If you load a web page and there's a bunch of video ads playing on the side the entire time you're on the site, that data flow has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is your data plan. So installing an

How to unlock the bootloader with one-click across different devices

If you don’t tinker around with your smartphone or tablet much, you may not exactly know what the bootloader does. This is the program that fires up as you turn on your device and is used to load the operating system. The majority of smartphone manufacturers lock the bootloader by default allowing only the loading of their own firmware or UI and preventing the installation of custom ROMs, such as  CyanogenMod  or Paranoid Android. As such, unlocking the bootloader is one of the key components to being able to install these custom ROMs on your device and we’ll show you how you can accomplish this across a few of the more popular smartphone manufacturers. Background Each device has unique hardware characteristics including a motherboard that requires its own individual bootloader. As such, there really isn’t any universal method for unlocking bootloaders and requires a different procedure or toolkit  across brands. Important:  All of the listed methods require you to first have r

How to root your device without voiding the warranty

If you’ve been a rather constant reader of AndroidPIT, you most likely have come across more than your fair share of guides on how exactly you can  root your device . However, how many of you haven’t bothered touching this type of things for fear of  voiding the warranty on your device ?  How about being worried that you might do something wrong and brick your device? Well, if that’s the case, you can now sleep soundly and attempt root yourself with the help of VRoot. This is a bundle of software that allows rooting devices with one click without the fear of voiding your warranty.  Note:  This procedure is only available for devices that are running Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. This also works on devices that have built in security software, such as Samsung’s and Knox. Forget the cumbersome procedures having to use Odin, searching for flashable recoveries, and all the rest. Once your device is recognized (in a database of over 8000 devices), the VRoot will enable p

How to save battery life: 16 tips to extend battery performance

It's no secret that smartphones are notorious battery hogs, with some devices having an almost embarrassing screen-on time. Those big  luscious AMOLED and LCD screens  are an obvious drain on your battery, but did you know there's lots of things you can do behind the scenes to get the most out of your Android? Here's 16 tips and a video walkthrough to help you get the most out of your smartphone battery. With our tips you'll get plenty more life out of your Android battery.  First, some background: most smartphones have either a Lithium Ion battery or a Lithium Polymer battery. Both are Lithium Ion though, and as such, do not have a ''memory'' which means you don't have to fully charge or discharge them at the beginning, and partial charging is fine throughout their life. In fact, these types of batteries suffer from low voltage, so it's actually much better to charge them, even if only a little, whenever you have the chance rather than to fu
